Late Night Trailers: One Day

One Day is an adaptation of a book by David Nicholls which I've seen around, but have never been particularly interested in.  Despite a fair amount of praise, the novel always looked, well, sappy.  The film looks rather precious to a certain degree as well, but there's an artistry there that seems quirky enough to allow the plot and presence of Anne Hathaway to potentially rise above your average Love and Other Drugs  romantic drama.  The film is the first post An Education for director Lone Scherfig, and follows a couple (Hathaway and Across the Universe's Jim Sturgess) as their romance and friendship unfolds in crucial bits on the same day every year (see what I mean?  sappy.).  We'll see how this plays out when One Day is released on August 19th.   If advanced buzz is any indication, it may be wiped off the love story grid by Steve Carell vehicle Crazy Stupid Love.
