Late Night Trailers: John Carter

Potential new franchise alert: Disney premiered the trailer for the much buzzed about John Carter.  The film is the live action directorial debut for Pixar's Andrew Stanton, the man behind some of my favorite flicks from the animation house (Wall E, Finding Nemo).  Carter was the creation of Tarzan author Edgar Rice Burroughs, he's  a Civil War soldier transported (we don't know how) suddenly to Mars.  His adventures there are of the epic variety, sprawling battles, saving the fates of the native martians, you know the drill.  It looks shiny, slick, and (most importantly) new.  I'm not horribly familiar with the work of our leading man, Taylor Kitsch (Friday Night Lights), but I suspect we're not really supposed to care.  Maybe this is one of those occasions where the film will take precedence over the screen time of the lead actor.  Or maybe he'll just be another Sam Worthington.  Either way, the film looks like good fun.  Slated for release in March of 2012.
