While the annual 'best of' round-up is a little harder to deliver on time for a film writer without regular access to screenings (I've still got a list of things I'd love to check out before making any real declarations), the beauty of the music list is that the recording industry isn't timing everything for a predetermined 'awards season', and that it's easy to have immediate access to just about anything from 2012. I've made a small, fairly OCD tradition of gathering up my 'favorite' songs on the year over at my largely defunct other blog, Pop Candy Arcade, and this year I blew the size of the list up to a full 100 tracks.
